Where are we?
The villages are located in South-East Wales, within the City Borough of Newport, along the shore line of the Severn Estuary. The villages are traditional rural communities, with relatively small populations (between 196 and 250), consisting of grouped and scattered houses and farms. The only public buildings in each of the three communities are the church, village hall and public house. The focus of the Flood 400 events will be around these institutions as they form natural gathering points. |

Who is Involved?
Flood 400 is a partnership set up between the churches of Redwick, Nash and Goldcliff and their respective communities. Membership of the project planning group has to date involved approximately 25 people. Representatives of Redwick Community Council are included in the group.
The group is thrilled to be working with Magor Church in Wales School. Staff and pupils are contributing to many of the different events, and the project is viewed as a key learning opportunity for pupils of all ages.
The Young Archaeologists' Club has already been involved in surveying the church at Redwick and the height of the Great Flood, and it is proposed to build on this work with similar projects at Nash and Goldcliff.
The group aims to make interactive exercises a major feature of its events and will be encouraging exhibiting agencies to do the same. |
